The Effective Maths number bonds intervention programme provides a fresh start for children that need to secure fluency in addition and subtraction facts within ten. Knowledge of these facts is essential for future success in addition and subtraction.
The programme makes extensive use of Cuisenaire® rods to foster deep understanding. The rods are used to:
provide a very tangible resource to support children’s learning;
develop recall of the addition and subtraction facts;
link powerful representations of additive facts to accurate independent recording;
engage children in challenging problem solving activities.
